Senior Staff of the Nigerian Aviation Authority (NCAA) are undergoing an intensive tutorials on Hazardous Materials Handling and Incident Prevention organised by ASSETBOW LTD in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Speaking during his opening remarks, Former Controller General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS) and Chairman of ASSETBOW Ltd, Dr. Liman Ibrahim maintained that, the training will hinge on Hazardous Materials(HAZMAT) and Response; And Basic Fire Safety Prevention and Firefighting Training.
Dr. Liman who spent 36 years in the firefighting industry further explained that, ASSETBOW will prepare the delegates to safely handle and safely transport potential hazardous materials and also give guidance on Prevention of Hazardous Materials accidents, the safe storage of HAZMAT and how to manage emergency response to HAZMAT accidents.
Stressing the importance of the training, he maintained that, the standard is the same as that outlined by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and International Air Transport Authority (IATA).
These, he said, includes Safety Compliance, Risk Mitigation, Emergency Response Preparedness and Documentation and Labelling. Others are, Security Measures, Environmental Protection, Continuous Training and Updates.
In his keynote address, The Managing Director of the company, Mr. Virgil Akama Onyeka defined Hazardous Materials as a group of products to which the storage, handling and use are regulated under the Hazardous Materials Standards. These, Mr. Virgil said are primarily associated with physical hazards and may also pose health issues.
He said the participants will be exposed to operations involving handling and/or use of Compressed Gas, Liquefied Gas, Non- Liquefied Gas and Dissolved Gas. He Concluded.
